Collection: Our Story
Family Craft Farm LLC is a cutflower, microgreens, and produce farm located in Ravenna, Michigan. Here on our farm, we're all about cultivating a sustainable lifestyle that we're proud to share with our growing family and community. This passion for growing stems from a long-standing family tradition of gardening, passed down through generations. While we weren't raised on farms with the big equipment and lifestyle of the traditional farmer, we've fostered an appreciation for the natural world and the ways in which we can harness its power to benefit ourselves and all those around us since a young age. To this day, I reminisce on cutting the lawn with my dad's old dark green ride-on mower. She was an old gem with her own quirks but got the job done. After mowing, we would always gather to help in some way in the garden. Dad always gave us the job of weeding or harvesting food while he sowed more seed. And while at the time, I may have been upset with having to weed rows and rows of beans, he has now set me up for the greatest discipline and respect for our land today.
Ryan grew up playing sports and had little experience with farming. He did, however, foster a love of nature and the great outdoors, spending most of his free time out in the woods hiking local trails and just enough time during his younger years at his grandparents small farm. Although growing up he never dreamt of becoming a farmer himself, his love of nature, cooking and passion for health and exercise later became a natural transition to life on the farm.
After serving in the Army, Ryan struggled with finding what it was he could do to become a solution to many of the problems he felt were plaguing modern society. One day, he stumbled on some YouTube videos about profitable urban farming on small plots of land, and he knew in that moment, in some form or another, that was his calling. To become a farmer. His new obsession and passion met it's match with Courtney's love for gardening and flowers and in 2020 the dream started to become reality.
We spent all of our first season growing commercially as a “trial period” with all sorts of 'new to us' varieties. We easily killed off more than 1,000 seedlings during this time. We then decided it was time to take it seriously as we hope to one day not have to work off the farm. So we invested in our new business venture.
As we've grown as a family in our passion, so has our commitment to sustainability. We believe that every person deserves access to fresh, healthy food that is grown in a way that respects and preserves our planet. That is why we grow using organic practices here on our farm.
Whether you are a gardening enthusiast or looking for new friendships, we invite you to join us on our journey to foster a more sustainable and healthier world. We're so happy you are here. We can't wait to grow with you!
